I want to tell you.

Traditional production since 1880

For more than 130 years, the Marí Mayans family has been dedicated to the study of aromatic plants and the production of tasty and high quality liqueurs.

They are the result of years of development and experience passed on from generation to generation. Their time-honoured method of production stands for unmistakable tradition and quality.

At the end of the 19th century, the first major spirits company in the Balearic Islands was established on Formentera. While many of the inhabitants of Formentera at that time were simple fishermen, farmers or cattle breeders, one of them, Juan Mari Mayans, regularly travelled to Barcelona with his small ship around 1880, bringing goods with him that were still unknown on the island. It was also he who was initiated into the secrets of distillation and the production of alcoholic beverages.

Juan Marí Mayans was particularly interested in aromatic herbs and medicinal plants and studied their properties. This led him to develop a passion for making drinks and liqueurs, so he carefully collected recipes from past centuries and studied the beneficial properties of aromatic island plants. Thanks to him we can still enjoy the liqueurs from the family business of Mari Mayan today.

In 1997, the Hierbas Ibicencas (Ibizan Herbs) Denomination of Origin was protected. Only genuine liqueur from Ibiza can carry this designation. This serves on the one hand to protect against imitation products and also guarantees the high quality of the product. The name Hierbas Ibicencas is inseparably linked to the Mari Mayans family.
